Tony, the call had nothing to do with taking a running start and jumping. The call was for leaping and then landing on another player. Jahvid appears to be progressing well and it looks like he will play against Arizona. As far as the safeties are concerned, Hicks is still out with a thigh bruise so it looks like Johnson and Ezeff are pretty entrenched as starters. But I think you’re going to see Sean Cattouse get more and more time. He played very well against ASU.

IMHO,the PAc-10 refs missed that one, it ain’t rugby, and that sure looked like a scrum to me…

I think I know the answer, but I’m not 100%. I believe a missed call cannot be reviewed. If someone knows better, please share…

I agree. That call on the “leap” was really ticky-tack. I don’t believe he even landed on anyone, but can’t recall. But all he did was take 2 steps and jump straight up – how can that be illegal? I mean c’mon, if I saw a competitor do that to us, I’d call it a hell of a play, not illegal. Rule needs to be modified a bit. Had that been a pivotal play, the Pac 10 refs would be in a lot of hot water – yet again.

Tony, Here’s the rule according to a poster on BearInsider:

No defensive player, in an attempt to gain an advantage, may step, jump or stand on an opponent. No defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone and leaps from beyond the neutral zone in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or try may land on any player(s). It is not a foul if the leaping player was aligned in a stationary position
within one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.
