Has anyone ever figured out why Tedford didn’t play Slocum against ASU?
October 13th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Yeah, because he got in trouble with the Berkeley police during the week leading up to the game. Minor citations, but apparently enough to keep him off the field.

dball, you sure? He was on kickoff coverage. He could have caught one and returned if they weren’t going hagan’s way.

Slocum played on returns. Don’t know about the off-field stuff.
My guess is that the game got off to good start (but it was never a run away) and JT wanted to give Vereen valuable reps. After a full game as “the man”, it can only help for the near and distant future.

I don’t make this stuff up. Somebody on another site posted this on Slocum from the UCPD log:
“6:44 PM – SLOCUM, Tracy (MB-20-S) cited for driving on a suspended license, driving the wrong-way on a one way street, and driving with no motorcycle helmet, E/ Women’s Faculty Club.
White 2006 Honda Metro Scooter, 18L8326, towed for having an unlicensed driver, E/ Women’s Faculty Club. To Husteads Tow.”

Dball, true, I heard that too. But I didn’t keep him off the field. Why he didn’t get a single hand-off, well, only Tedford can really answer that.

Oops, left the link off. Here it is:

Meh, I don’t think Slocum’s citation is anything big. The license requirements for those kind of scooters are a little vague; I’ve heard people claim that class M licenses aren’t required if the bike has an engine less than 50cc (that Honda is 49cc). I’m guessing a class C license is still required. That, and the missing helmet, is probably what got him in trouble.
Could be worse. At least he didn’t rob anyone.
