Cal linebacker Mike Mohamed has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for defense. Mohamed had nine tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a 19-yard interception return for a touchdown.
All three conference players of the week will be represented in Saturday’s game against Oregon, as the other two winners this week come from the Ducks. Here’s the news release from the Pac-10.

Do you think he’ll get to be a starter after that performance?

he seems more valuable as the fill in guy for the other starters…

There’s no doubt he should be starting he gives the Bears leverage and speed on the opposite side of Follett. He’s a fantastic athlete and will only get better with the more reps he gets!

Mike Mohamed is a soph. He’ll be the man next year as Follett, Felder and Williams graduate.

Happy for Mike, but during the first half I thought
Marcus Ezeff was a lock for Pac-10 DPW. Why wasn’t he even honorable mention w/ two picks, one returned for a touchdown?

I think it is fairly simple. Mohamed made 3 critical plays: (1) Int for TD, (2) Sack on 3rd and long on the Bear’s side of the field, and (3) Tackle for loss on 3rd and short at midfield. All huge plays, while Ezeff had 2 huge plays. It was simple a numbers game. Ezeff will get his due, if he continues to progress.
Go Bears!

Paul, probably not. As Bob Gregory pointed out, he actually probably gets more reps than any other linebacker because he fills in at all four positions. So I don’t think anyone is too worried if he starts or not.
