Mark: I agree this is a game between equals. That means a great college football game if they both play their best (go Best).

The way things have gone with Riley this year I don't know how anybody could suggest that Mansion won't have a hell of an opportunity to compete for and win the starting job NEXT year.

It has been my theory all along that Tedford knows Mansion is his guy moving forward (although he is not quite ready to be playing this yr as a redshirt frosh) and that is a big reason why he (JT) doesn't care about the "if all things are equal then play the younger guy" mantra. Tedford likely believes Mansion will win the job from Riley anyway and therefore he isn't just going to give the reigns to Riley this yr so easily, like many of us would have thought he would have. Anyway, just a theory. But I see no way Mansion transfers knowing he could be the #1 guy in '09.

Riley will shine when the Cal receivers begin to catch the catchable passes that they are dropping now.

Why not throw to Shane Vereen and/or Jahvid Best on some longer routes? They don't drop as many passes as the receivers.

On a different note, NOAA forecasts:

Saturday: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. High near 61. South wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Fellows:

Good luck to all of you from a Duck fan. I simply can't remember a game of ours where I truly don't see an overall advantage for either team. There are strengths and weaknesses, but overall I just don't see a real edge either way. It seems every edge I fine has an equal counter balance in this one. Half the writers up here are picking Cal the other half the Ducks. Vegas has you guys by 3, so I guess that makes us the underdogs. Should be a good game.

"Cal85Bear" asks a very good question . . . What happened to WR Sean Young in the UCLA game?

Young only had one catch for 4 yards, while Jeremy Ross had 3-44 and Nyan Boateng 2-67. This is a far cry from the 6-55 showing down in Tucson against Arizona. Could he be nursing an injury?

By the end of the season, I really think that Verran Tucker will see more playing time. I was very impressed watching his Juco scouting film last Summer. Too bad he missed so much time trying to get his grades up, otherwise I think he would be one of our "go-to" guys at WR.

On another note, I was puzzled as to why Nate was not given the opportunity to get into the last several minutes of the UCLA game for "mop-up" duty . . . I speculated that the disc in his back has flared up again; otherwise he should have seen playing time against the Bruins.

Hope Donovan has the game of his life against the Ducks, and Noris Malele's ankle is feeling stronger! We really need a solid effort on the O-Line this Saturday!

The two words I like are: Ball Security.

Ball Security = Kevin Riley

Brock Mansion = Wait your turn

2011 = Alan Bridgeford
