Basketball: How hot in Haas tonight?

Remember that first season in Haas Pavilion back in 1999-2000 when the hot dog cooker or popcorn machine at the concession stand would periodically set off the fire alarm and prompt a mandatory exodus from the building?
Well, it’s Year 10 at Haas — hard to believe, huh? – and suddenly the $56 million building’s thermostat has a mind of its own. Saturday evening’s season opener was uncomfortably warm even for spectators, seemingly close to 80 degrees.
“It was so hot in that gym, I started getting cramps in my leg,” Cal point guard Jerome Randle complained on Monday. He wasn’t the only one. Center Jordan Wilkes also suffered leg cramps during the game.
”Hopefully, they fix the air conditioning,” Randle said. “It’s even hotter in our locker room. It’s burning up down there. We break a sweat before we even get on the court.”
An athletic department spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon he doesn’t expect things to be any different tonight.
Our suggestion: Dress in layers.
