Basketball: Randle’s big finish leads Cal win

Junior point guard Jerome Randle scored 22 of his 25 points in the second half — 16 of them in the final 7:24 — and Cal held off repeated comeback tries by USF to win 87-74.
The Bears improved to 2-0 and USF lost for the first time, falling to 2-1.
Theo Robertson scored a career-high 23 points for the Bears, 19 of them in the first half. Jamal Boykin added 15 points. Randle had six rebounds and six assists in addition to his points, and was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Senior guard Manny Quezada led USF with 27 points, hitting 10 of 12 from the field, including all five of his 3-point tries. USF was 12-for-21 from beyond the arc. Dior Lowhorn, the junior forward from Berkeley High, added 20 points for the Dons.
