Football: An eye on the future

History may demonstrate that this was a big week for the future of Cal’s football program.
Multiple online recruiting sites reported this week that the Bears secured oral commitments from a pair of top-level defensive backs, cornerback Steve Williams from Dallas and safety Alex LoganĀ out of Denver. In the case of Williams, he decommitted from Oklahoma to choose Cal.
Williams is rated as the 8th-best corner prospect in the country by ESPN.com, 88th overall. Logan is listed as the 17th-rated safety.
Here’s more on Williams’ choice from ESPN.com.
Could more big names be on the horizon? This is expected to be a huge recruiting weekend for the Bears, who are hosting eight recruits, according to scout.com. Among them are some of the nation’s best at their positions, most notably Phoenix defensive end Devon Kennard. Also on campus will be wide receiver Randall Carroll, who has a soft commitment to USC but reportedly still is interested in Cal.
If all goes well against Stanford and the Bears finish the season strong, this could turn out to be a significant recruiting class.

Wow! Just check scout. It’s true that the list has jump to 8. And, most of them are 4 stars and 1 with 5.
I hope Cal does a good job to convince them to commit.
Go bears!

Yeah, JO, we’ll see come Jan/Feb who Tedford actually ends up signing. Kennard would be a coup. We’ll see. Let’s win 3 in a row to close out the season, for starters.

Williams is a great recruit. Seems the Bears have done well in Texas the last few years.
They may not get the kid from Arizona but he needs to spend the weekend with Cameron Jordan who is also from Arizona. Jordan is going to be a star and Alualu and Hill are both going to be around for a few more years. These guys could make a great defensive line.
Cal a national recruiting power? Who knew?
