The Emerald Bowl and Las Vegas Bowl have reached an agreement in which the Las Vegas Bowl will select the winner of Saturday’s Arizona-Arizona State game, leaving the Emerald Bowl the chance to pick Cal.
The agreement is contingent on USC beating UCLA on Saturday.
Cal likely will play either Miami or Wake Forest in the Emerald Bowl. Executive director Gary Cavalli said today that he is leaning toward picking Miami if that is the scenario.

I have gone to every bowl game since I graduated and this may be the first one I miss. Football should be played in a football stadium.
December 4th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Would not Cal get a bigger dollar share if it went to the Vegas Bowl? If that is the case, how can we get “reamed” out of this entitled share amount because of this “agreement to send us to a lessor bowl. Is this the case? If so how is an Arizona school finishing below us entitled to this bigger share?
December 4th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
[...] Word is that a deal was struck and the Las Vegas Bowl will select the winner of the Arizona/ASU game, leaving Emerald the opportunity to take Cal. [...]
December 4th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Cal vs Miami. I like that.
Go Bears!
December 4th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
I agree with both of the above opinions, but the later weighs heavier in my humble opinion. It isn’t every year that we get to see our Bears play a team from Florida. Still, why can’t this bowl game be played in Candlestick? Oh yeah, let Zona play a MWC team for all I care.
Go BEARS!
December 4th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Players openly hoped for a Vegas Bowl invite, which is understandable.
I read that Cal will bus over from the SF hotel to Memorial for practice. How sad. They’ve been practicing at Memorial since early August.
Not much of a reward for a probable 8-win regular season.
Be on guard for a deflated team (like the magical ‘04 Holiday Bowl team).
Go Bears!
December 4th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
so not cool…I hate how bowls can make “agreements” with each other…its just money making bastards deciding where teams should go when teams according to accomplishment should decide on their own.
CAL reject this bowl and get an offer from an open bowl…where the payout is more than the lame emerald NUTS bowl
December 4th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Not sure why this is contingent on SC beating fUCLA. What happens if fUCLA wins? Cal still finishes fourth???
December 4th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
[...] Emerald Bowl likely bowl destination for Bears [...]

UCLA beats USC (what are the odds of next-to-impossible?) then Oregon State goes to Rose Bowl. USC drops to Holiday Bowl (wouldn’t that be a thing of beauty). Sun Bowl chooses between Oregon and Cal and picks Cal because of their no repeat clause (Oregon played there last year).
December 5th, 2008 at 1:28 am
i think actually that USC would go to another BCS bowl game, Oregon to the Holiday Bowl, Cal to the Sun bowl, etc…
December 5th, 2008 at 1:29 am
i take it back. wow. i was not thinking. YES, holiday bowl. haha
December 5th, 2008 at 6:16 am
Read on the SF Chronicle…
“At this point it is pretty safe to say that Nate lack intangibles to be a great QB at this level. But let me point out that it is also a pretty safe thing to say that Cal fans lack intangibles to be a fan base worthy of a great program that they keep saying they aren’t and won’t ever be. Obviously there are exceptions, and exceptions I’ve seen many, but by and large those Cal fans who bark loud on the internet are some of the whiniest crybabies I’ve seen in any fan base of any team in sports. A coach arrives at a joke of a program, makes an 8-game turnaround in his first year, gets the sorryass program to the verge of a BCS bowl within three years and the fans call him a god, fast forward a couple years and they whine about how they have to settle with just a $2mil bowl and ask for his head. God forbid their football team has one bad season and they pin it all on one guy who played through most of the season on one leg. Sorry losers, you don’t deserve a winning program.”
I would like to hear your comments
December 5th, 2008 at 7:50 am
Unfortunately, the dumbest fans are often the loudest. I don’t think the opinions he states are those of most Cal fans, just a few. But those few are the fans that troll message boards to instigate drama. It’s just unfortunate Cal fans have this label because all the fans I know don’t act like that.
December 5th, 2008 at 8:42 am
When I first read your post I thought that the quote was written by an actual journalist. Then I realized you were just quoting someone’s “comment”. Wow you are a loser. As far as I am concern, you just quoted yourself.
I do give it up to you for you obsession with Cal. If there was an internet poll, you would be voted “most obsessed Cal fan” hands down. You would also likely be voted “biggest loser” as well (and I’m not talking about the people that lose weight on that TV show).
December 5th, 2008 at 9:18 am
Amy, amy, amy… Where’s the link you big hunk of meat? That write-up has all the hallmarks of you, as it starts with Nate, then leaps into the imaginative fan base in the second sentence. No writer comes close to your bizaar solitude. You’re not kidding anyone, you big piece of nothing.
Did you hear about those 3 Americans in China who have lost a combined +450 lbs? Perhaps, you can join them to find meaning in your pathetic life.
I returned to my hotel in London from a pub which was once a brothel. It reminded me of you, and how unlucky poor Cal fans are for your constant presence. However, you are an insignificant disease. At best, you’re a minor annoyance with little or no impact.
Welcome back to the party, DaBruinWarrior!
December 5th, 2008 at 10:20 am
To the players who feel dejected going to the Emerald Bowl - play for the fans who is going to a Bowl game for the first time. Play for those of us who is going to see Cal Bears for the first time. GO BEARS!

Welcome back to the party, DaBruinWarrior!>>>>> Try again. You are really cold.

Amy - Has it ever come to your 2 functioning brain cells that you are an experimental subject like a mouse in a maze heading for its piece of cheese. However, your piece of cheese is certain death after an absolutely unproductive and wasted life. We are learning a lot from you. Keep on sharing your distorted view of the world and aid science in developing new means to weed-out others in your same inferior existance. Don’t forget to use quotes next time for posterity’s sake. Your turn!

How many of you will be bringing packages of nuts to the game today and wave them in honor of your bowl game invite?
December 6th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Why would anyone bring nuts, when the wackiest nut of all is trolling this blog every hour of the day?
I take that back. You’re more like a fungus that infest nuts.
Thanks for the timely post. Now, I can go out knowing that you aren’t left alone with your devices at least for the moment.

December 6th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Oh my god! Moron disses someone else about not having a life?
Having a mental breakdown forcing you to leave school — living with mommy and daddy in your late 20s — still a virgin — no friends to go to games with so daddy has to take you — that’s a life?
bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Take it easy on ol’ nCS, it’s been a rough week w/ one of his legends being pwned by a girl (albeit one helluva wise judge), his own hubris, and his appalling judgment (earliest evidence: he accepted an SC scholarship). He was probably waving his own nutbag at that judge for having the temerity to finally put the squeeze on juice. Also, ol’ ncs realizes Cal fans are about the only people he can get a rise out of, seeing as the trojins are inconsequential to the rest of the country.
Let’s leave him be and celebrate the top rusher in the Pac-10. What’s the Pac-10 record for rushing in one game, anyway? Good thing Jahvid only played 3 quarters.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Hey I’m really looking forward to the matchup of the top two teams in the country.

Is it an accomplishment when said player gains over 700 yards or over 50% of his rushing yards against 3 cupcakes - WSU, UW and Stanford?
December 6th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Sorry, NCS, your comments and the opponent notwithstanding I’m happy! Shoot, Stafon Johnson and whatsisname (McDonalds? McAfee? Mc something but he’s kinda overshadowed so I’ve forgotten) played against all those guys without a performance like that…guess it just means Jahvid’s the best back in the pac-10. Y’all did a good job bottling up Jahvid, but that’s ancient history. Today was nothing short of phenomenal and all Bear fans are happy. The sun is shining, there’s one more game to play, and things are looking up for next year. Maybe we’ll teach Jahvid to throw and run the wildcat all over the pac next year. Good times are comin’ to town…
December 6th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Let’s celebrate with friends! Moron can’t do that. His fellow sc fans have banned his morencs screen name on both SC boards.
He’s punked and hated by all. As is deserved.
No wonder he had that mental breakdown and had to leave school.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Hey one good piece of advice deserves another…Don’t shout “cupcake” too loud or the BCS will hear you and you’ll be non-factors for the so-called championship. Oops, nevermind (tee hee!) If you guys hadn’t bogarted all the scholies by paying off dudes, maybe your wins over those cuppies would help your precious status. Y’all shoulda got more credit for beating us, though. If only Jahvid hadn’t waited til the last game to break out, maybe that win would’ve garnered more respect. Guess you’re only left to wonder “what if…” Ha! Ha!

Don;t you think your time would be better spent waving a package of nuts up and down Telegraph and Bancroft.

A non rated team going to one of the least significant bowl games dissing on a #5 rated team going to the Rose Bowl after winning the conference championship for the last 5 years in a row.

December 6th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Hey now, you’re distorting my words. Examine your syntax: no team is dissing another team. I, as a perspicacious individual, am merely making observations from my admittedly-not-so-lofty-yet-joyful perch. I respect all they’ve achieved this season, a sentiment I suspect you don’t share. You Sounds like you’re dissing your own team by admitting they’re #5 after beating cupcakes.
What a day for us!
Go Bears! Go Jahvid! Win the Emerald Bowl!
December 6th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
nomorencs, i swear you have to stop with the we garbage, you are not, or will you ever be a usc football player. what does maryland have to do with sc, yes , maryland won, they played a good game and cal didnt. but every game is a new day, you should know that, cough cough OREGON STATE. howd the 5 star athletes look that day, pretty sorry if you ask me. the sad thing is, one day youre gonna look in the mirror and realize that you waste more of your time on this board dissing cal for some odd reason when you can be doing something with your life. when im on this board, i sometimes check to see how fast you respond, and its usually right away, no life if you ask me, how sad are you. i love cal football, but i actually have a life, loser.
December 7th, 2008 at 7:54 am
“We could have not given up a touchdown, that would have been pretty sweet, but today was good,” senior linebacker Worrell Williams said. “They have a lot of formations and talent, but, not to be cocky, we were the better team.” >>>>Why the chest thumping? This game resembled a scrimmage against the junior varsity.
December 7th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Why do you brag and chest thump about being from SC? That choice was forced on you when no good school would take you? Same thing happened with DavisState Law School. No one CHOOSES to go there. And hardly anyone has such emotional problems that they have to quit school with a mental breakdown and end up jobless, living with mommy and daddy even though they are in their late 20s.
Answer that question, moron.
December 7th, 2008 at 10:45 am
And yet, Moron still disses people who stalk.
POT and KETTLE both have mental breakdowns in recent history.
the Morencs screen name: BANNED AT SC BOARDS!
December 7th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
can’t we follow suit and ban morencsarecoming from this board, too?
JO, any input? he’s really a nuisance and offers nothing constructive to say.
December 7th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
i agree, i like to give him a bad time but its only because hes not the sharpest tool in the shed. i like being on a board, a local bay area board that talks about cal football not sc football, ban this sucker
December 7th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Why did the organizer of the Emerald Nut Bowl diss UCB. Here is what he said…
He was asked what it meant to the Emerald Bowl - and to him - to have Cal in game.
Said Cavalli, “It’s hard to put in it into words - we’ve been hoping to get Cal since the game was founded - and more so since 3 years ago when the deal was made to get the Pac-10 4th or 5th ranked finisher. That deal made it seem even more realistic that we could get Cal.
That deal i.e. the Emerald Bowl would get the 4th or 5th ranked finisher made getting UCB realistic. LOL.
December 7th, 2008 at 10:27 pm

December 7th, 2008 at 10:28 pm

December 7th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Why did the moderators of the two SC fan boards diss Morencsarecoming. Here is what they did…
They were asked to ban the little freak — to never have his words posted on their boards. And they agreed.
Said WeAreSC moderator, “It’s hard to put in it into words - we hate the little freak. He’s an embarassment to SC. WE punked him when he posted, but it wasn’t enough. WE’ve banned lots of UCLA trolls, but he’s the only supposedly SC fan that we have banned.” The scout techie took joy in how he kept banning iwas, iam, mebane, morencs, lessnc, fundingmanager and all the others. They hate the little freak.
The deal that they would never have to read the idiot freaks mentally weak ramblings was enuf to get them to ban hm. LOL.
December 7th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
More NC’s,
You really aren’t the brightest tool in the shed, are you?
I just think it’s laughable that you have to continually look for ways to say CAL is not a good football team. It’s like a Lakers fan arguing with a Clippers fan that they have the better team. Duh? Are you that stupid? As I’ve said before there is no question that CAL is not at the same level as USC yet. Pete Carroll and the Trojans record speaks for themselves.
But this is not a disappointing season in my perspective for CAL. Yes the fans were very hard on our QB situation, but honestly, with the departure of last years players did anyone expect CAL to even contend for anything other than a mid-tier bowl this year? I’ve just hoped all year long that our players would get experience (and our first year OC), so that next year we are ready to roll. And from the last few games, things are looking up.
As for USC…..I just can’t wait to see what choke job they pull next year. This is becoming a recurring theme and is costing you guys opportunities at NC’s. Think of what would have happened had you not lost to UCLA and Oregon State 2 years ago, Stanford last year, and Oregon State this year. Pretty sad that with all your 5-star recruits the team can’t play more disciplined and stay focused all season long.
Hey maybe next year Sarkisian will lead those Huskies in whacking off you Trojans? I mean Harbaugh did it with Stanford who was like a what 40…50…60 point underdog? How bout an 0-12 team knocking off them mighty Trojans? Then I would LMAO. But until that day, I’ll just keep laughing at your posts. Thanks for the entertainment.
