Football: Michalczik musings

This is a significant loss for the Bears. Not only is MIchalczik a very well-respected offensive line coach, he’s been Jeff Tedford’s sidekick in offensive game planning ever since he’s been at Cal. It’s a hit in terms of stability and continuity for the program.
Tedford is going to look around him next season and see an offensive staff of coaches who mostly haven’t been around here very long. There will be a new offensive line coach, an offensive coordinator only in his second year and a wide receivers coach in his third year. Only running backs coach Ron Gould, who pre-dates Tedford, is a familiar face.

JO – I was looking at the compensation for the coaches. If Coach M is a valuable asset (which I wholeheartedly believe)to the program, I don’t understand why he got half of Gregory’s compensation. Out of all the positions on the team, OL has been one of the most consistent aspects of the team during JTs tenure next to the RBs, with the latter’s performance heavily dependent on the consistency of the former.
This is important because it seems like next to the geographic pull for a Pacific Northwest native, compensation was a big factor for coach M. moving to UW.

I will miss Coach M. Had a great time at the fantasy camp in June getting O-line skills from Coach M. and Alex Mack. What a class act!

Dave, remember that Gregory is a coordinator. Coordinators always are going to make more than position coaches. That’s another reason a chance to become a coordinator at Washington was so appealilng for him.
