A loss to Stanford didn’t hurt Cal’s postseason prospects in the eyes of Joe Lunardi, ESPN’s NCAA bracketologist.
Lunardi has the Bears as a No. 4 seed in this week’s projected bracket, one spot better than a week ago. According to Lunardi’s bracket, Cal will face Northern Iowa in a first-round matchup in Portland.
UCLA and Arizona State would be No. 5 seeds if the bracket were announced today, Lunardi suggested, and Washington a No. 10 seed. USC just missed the cut this week.
Saint Mary’s College is a No. 10 seed, projected to play Purdue in Dayton, Ohio, according to Lunardi.
Here’s the full projected bracket.

If it plays out like Lunardi is projecting today, it would be a near perfect scenario for Cal. Number 4 seed with first and second round games in Portland. Potential second round game against a mediocre Gonzaga squad (only downside is Gonzaga would probably draw a lot of fans to Portland…but I’m sure Cal would to). And then staying out West (Phoenix) for potential Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games. Sweet!

Maybe if we lose a few more, we’ll be in line for a #1 seed!
