Senior Bowl practices began yesterday and ESPN.com reported that Cal’s Alex Mack is taking reps at both center and guard. Oregon’s Max Unger, who along with Mack is considered to be one of the top centers in the country, apparently is alternating with Mack. Both players are taking reps at both positions. If Mack can demonstrate this kind of versatility effectively, it will only increase his draft stock, which is pretty high already.

Alex will excel at any position they put him in at. With his strength, smarts, quickness and flexibility, he could play on the defensive side of the ball needed too…6’4 1/8″, 312 lbs. of pure smashmouth. Hopefully Guarnero and Brasinki can pick up where he left off!

I really hope the Senior Bowl allows Mack to separate himself from Unger, in a good way. Some draft boards have Unger the #1 center prospect.
