Basketball: RPI update and so long, for now

Cal’s win over Stanford boosted the Bears from No. 29 to No. 23 in the latest RPI computer rankings.
This is my last BearTalk blog post for a week. Media News is not immune to the nation’s economic slump, and all employees are being asked to take a one-week “furlough.” After some deliberation, we’ve decided that I will take my leave this week.
It means I miss a trip to Corvallis, Ore., proving that every cloud has a silver lining.
I will be back on Monday, Feb. 23, well in advance of USC and UCLA visiting Haas Pavilion.
Talk to you then.

Wow, tough times indeed. Good luck getting through it, and thanks so much for your excellent coverage. I guess since it couldn’t be WSU, Corvallis is a good second place.

JF,
Sorry to hear about that situation. You are doing a tremendous job, as one of your many readers I appreciate your work very much. Wish more people would support the paper. Most people I question tell me they don’t subscribe because of the unbalanced news coverage. I tell them, just read the sports, best Cal coverage in hard copy around.
Thanks

Ouch. But to state the obvious, it could be worse.
JF, you’re doing a great job. Hang in there.

I’m missing the updates already!

Here’s an update:
Rivals (link below) has cal as a 6 seed, along with ASU. UW and UCLA are 5 seeds. We’ll know the real rankings in a month. I hope Cal ends up playing in Portland.
I ran into the team today as they were getting on the bus – I can now confirm that (1) I have never seen Christopher go more than 30 seconds without laughing; and (2) Niger Carter has never smiled, ever.
