Cal football: Quick pre-scrimmage update

By Jonathan Okanes
Friday, April 17th, 2009 at 9:23 pm in off-season stuff.

Cal was scheduled to have a light practice tonight, but it was canceled. The Bears simply had meetings. This is really not significant. Tonight’s practice was scheduled to be a lot shorter than most and probably would have been helmets only because of tomorrow’s scrimmage.

The Bears will treat tomorrow’s scrimmage as a dress rehearsal in some ways. They will go through their normal pre-game routine and come out of the tunnel as though taking the field just before a normal home game. But as always, it won’t be a true scrimmage. It will be situational, with the offense trying to move the ball against the defense by starting drives at different parts of the field. There also will be separate special teams segments.

To get you ready for the scrimmage, here is my notebook that is running tomorrow. It is already on our website.

For those of you attending tomorrow, have a good time. I’ll have a story in Sunday’s paper about it and, of course, lots of stuff here on BearTalk.
