Basketball: Randle wins top team award

Greetings all. I’m back from some R&R (and jury duty) and will resume providing news and notes as things evolve in the offseason.

Here’s a little old business — Cal’s team awards, handed out last week.

Junior guard Jerome Randle, who averaged 18.3 ppg and 5.0 apg, was named MVP, and backcourt mate Patrick Christopher won the Pete Newell Coach’s Award. Both players were named to the 10-man all-Pac-10 first team.

Randle also was went home with hardware for Best Free Throw Percentage (86.3 percent), took the Jason Kidd Award as the team’s assist leader and was honored as a team captain with Theo Robertson.

Jamal Boykin was recognized for Highest Field Goal Percentage (53 percent) and took the Darrall Imhoff Award as the leading rebounder (6.4 rpg).

Jordan Wilkes won the Senior Award and freshman guard Jorge Gutierrez claimed the Defensive Player of the Year.
