Cal football: TV announcement

The first TV announcements for the 2009 season have come in, and ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 has picked up three of the Bears games.

ESPN2 will air Cal’s season-opener against Maryland. The game will begin at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, ABC will air two other games: Cal’s visit to Oregon on Sept. 26 will begin at 12:30 p.m. while the Bears’ home game against USC will kick off at 5 p.m.

ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 gets the first choice of Pac-10 games. Starting on June 1, Fox Sports Net and then Versus gets to choose to televise further games. Any games left that aren’t chosen before the season starts will be candidates to be picked up by ABC through the six-day and 12-day window.

Cal has had every game televised during each of the last two seasons.

  1. I grew up as a huge Cal fan in the Bay Area and moved to the East Coast 7 years ago. THANK GOD that Cal is good enough and there are enough stations for all the games to be on tv now.

  2. Josh is right. I can’t get enough of that down-the-line screen.

  3. JO, he was probably before your time covering the team, but it would be nice if you could catch up with him and do a feature on Nnamdi.

  4. 7 p.m. PT is 10 p.m. ET. A little switcheroo or pay back for the 9 a.m. PT Maryland game last year? 10 p.m. is easier to play but it will feel a little odd to them.

  5. Nnamdi and J Boykin are great examples of Cal athletics, past and future.

Good news the Maryland game – and hopefully all the rest – will be televised. I can’t wait to watch the Bears get pay back.

    Go Bears!

  6. Great start to the TV schedule.
Recruits see that we are a top draw in the Pac for natiional TV exposure.
You come to Cal and you will be seen by the nation.
Every game this year will be televised again. Great stuff.

  7. Along with my prediction that Cal will beat SC in October. I also predict Gameday will make a visit to Berkeley this year for that game.

  8. Justin Forsett is now number 20 for the Seahawks
