Cal football: Monday news and notes

–Here’s a story I wrote for today’s paper on left tackle Mike Tepper. Most fans now know he was run over by a car while sticking up for a female friend in 2005. But many don’t know that the incident started a dark period of life that had him contemplating suicide.
–A look at former defensive end Rulon Davis, from the Denver Post.
–The Bears have brought in a walk-on fullback for the fall.
–One note about Saturday’s TV announcements: This will be the fourth year in a row the Cal-USC game will be featured on ABC’s “Saturday Night Football,” usually reserved for the marquee games of the season. ABC started the package in 2006 and the Cal-USC game has been a part of it in every season.

Hey JO
Nice piece on Mike Tepper. I didn’t realise mike got so down. I understand why he would but glad he came back and glad he has another year.

After the epic game in 2004 between USC an Cal, who WOULDN’T want to watch that match up!? Cal has been the ONLY team to be a consistent threat to USC on a nationally aware level (OSU is the only team to actually consistently beat USC, but no one outside Oregon seems to even notice that).

Nice find for the Bears. The FB position is a concern given that we will need one to get Best going next year. He has good size and by the time he is a sophmore he should be a Beast. Can’t to see him and some of the heavier backs that we recruited running the ball with attitude.

Terrific story on Tepper.
Reminds us how a college football team is a family.
It’s nice to have a support system in place for these young men.
