Cal football: Elite 11

Cal hosted one of the regional camps for the Elite 11 quarterback competition yesterday at Memorial Stadium. There were 57 participants, including Austin Hinder from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Hinder has an offer from Cal. Jake Heaps, considered by many to be the nation’s top quarterback prospect, was not there. Heaps also has an offer from Cal and is believed to be strongly considering Washington, BYU and the Bears. Heaps is from the Seattle area.

One other notable name in attendance was Oaks Christian High School’s Nick Montana, the son of former NFL great Joe Montanta.

Brett Nottingham of Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista and Stockton (Calif.) St. Mary’s quarterback Marcus McDade (6-3, 190) were the consensus best. Supposedly Hinder couldn’t even throw a spiral. I hope Tedford takes 2 QBs this class, considering his take 1 every year approach isn’t working out since most of the ones he recruits have been slight to mega busts.

“I hope Tedford takes 2 QBs this class, considering his take 1 every year approach isn’t working out since most of the ones he recruits have been slight to mega busts.”

Um, where is this coming from? That Aaron Rodgers guy didn’t work out, obviously. I’ll give you the fact that Ayoob was terrible, though if he hadn’t destroyed his shoulder there’s a possibility he would have been serviceable. Longshore was good before injuries, though he never peaked as high as expected. The year Tedford recruited two QB’s produced Kevin Riley and Kyle Reed. And if you want to call Sweeney and Mansion, a freshman and sophmore, respectively, “slight to mega busts” already…well then I don’t know what to tell you.

I think the problem is your expectations were set unrealistically high in the beginning of Tedford’s tenure, and you don’t realize how ridiculous it is to expect a college team to produce an NFL quality QB every year.

question: why am I getting a list of old stories on the bear talk page, and I have to click …more bear talk to get to current stories?

Lawrence, I asked the same question a week ago with no response. Then, I heard the company who owns the CC Times might charge for this content. LOL!
