Right now ASU is just coming off a tourney season. In two years they’ll be coming off two very poor seasons. Sunshine and cute girls might not be enough at that point.

It does seem a little crazy but….if a player has a school he wants to attend or a coach he wants to play for and they offer him, he’s basically holding a spot for himself. Of course things can change and everyone involved understands that at this point. It’s also an excellent recruiting tool for the program when they get a couple of good players to sign it hopefully starts a domino effect and that’s going to help player and school reach their combined goal of a championship. Sounds like a good strategy for a player and a coach who respect each other.

Yes, sophomores do commit these days. Freshmen, too. But it’s actually kind of silly, because the commitment isn’t binding until players sign their letter-of-intent in November of their senior year in high school. In the meantime, they can make any oral commitment they want, but it’s only as good as their word. Likewise, if a school eventually decides it doesn’t want a player, there are plenty of opportunities in the meantime to wiggle out of the agreement. Until the papers are signed.
