Cal football: Lindy’s weighs in

We reported earlier what Athlon thinks of the 2009 Bears. Lindy’s College Football Preview is out and the publication picks Cal No. 12 nationally and to finish in second place in the Pac-10.

Lindy’s picks running back Jahvid Best and cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson as First Team All-Americans.  It also has other accolades for Best:

–No. 4 Heisman Trophy candidate

–No. 2 NFL prospect in the Pac-10 (USC safety Taylor Mays is No. 1)

–No. 1 running back in the country

–MVP of the Pac-10

Lindy’s puts Best, Thompson, left tackle Mike Tepper and punter Bryan Anger on the All-Pac-10 first team. It puts right tackle Mitchell Schwartz and defensive end Tyson Alualu on the second team.

Thompson is rated as the No. 2 cornerback in the country behind Kentucky’s Trevard Lindley. Anger is listed as the No. 3 punter behind Baylor’s Derek Epperson and Michigan’s Zoltan Mesko.

Lindy’s also says Cal has the No. 8 offensive line in the country and the No. 6 secondary.

Other notes on Cal from Lindy’s:

–USC’s visit to Cal on Oct. 3 is listed as one of the top 12 conference games across the nation this season.

–Lindy’s selected an all-decade team and Alex Mack was the second team center.

–The publication lists its top 100 recruits for 2010 and two Cal commits are among the rankings: quarterback Austin Hinder checks in at No. 76 and linebacker Cecil Whiteside is No. 91.
