Basketball: Theo’s hip progressing well

I talked this afternoon with Cal small forward Theo Robertson, who had surgery on his right hip barely two months ago. The fifth-year senior-to-be said he has been cleared to lift weights and shoot the ball, and next week can start running on a treadmill for the first time.
He said he expects to be able to do fullcourt, non-contact workouts in about 3 to 4 weeks.
“It’s coming along pretty well,” Robertson said. “Having gone through the experience one time before definitely helps this time. There haven’t been any setbacks, which is great.”
Robertson underwent surgery on the left hip two years ago and had to sit out the entire 2007-08 campaign. But that procedure involved microfracture surgery, which requires a long rehab, and this one did need that.
“I’m right around where I’m supposed to be. They’re really pleased,” Robertson said. ”The main thing is to let everything heal up inside there the first couple months.”
Robertson said he probably won’t be able to play five-on-five until September, adding that the freedom to train all summer is critical.
He said he has no worries about whether he’ll be ready for the start of the season. “Without a doubt, I’ll be back. That’s not a concern at all.”
Robertson went through graduation ceremonies two weeks ago and will be free to take whatever classes he wishes next year.
“It’s definitely a weight off my shoulders,” he said. “Really, my whole focus right now is basketball. I’m trying to make this a big season.”

I hope I shoot 3′s like Theo tonight at Tice Valley. Win and we make the playoffs.

Pretty good stuff from Theo. Impressive that he has already graduated. Thanks for the update.
Good luck Theo and Bears!

Thanks for the update on Theo. Any chance for an update on Harper? He is the big question mark. Like last year, he might be technically available to play by the next season after recuperating from surgery, but since he has already taken one for the team at less than 100%, he may be thinking of a redshirt year to put these knee issues completely (or as close to it as possible) behind him. Would be great to know how things are going.

Glad to hear Theo is on track to be back on the court soon and even better is that he has his degree in hand!
Nice job Theo, congrats!
