Cal football: TV schedule
By Jonathan Okanes
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 at 2:26 pm in off-season stuff.
Now that Fox Sports Net has made its selections for Pac-10 games this season, we have a good skeleton of the schedule. FSN picked up seven games in its initial selection process for its national broadcasts, and no Cal games were involved. But that doesn’t mean Cal won’t have some of its games aired on FSN eventually.
As many of you know by now, the Pac-10 reserves a substantial chunk of games during the conference season to be claimed by either ABC, FSN or Versus either six or 12 days (usually 12) before they are played. So far, only three Cal games are set in stone for TV: Sept. 5 vs. Maryland (ESPN2, 7 p.m.), Sept. 26 at Oregon (ABC, 12:30 p.m.) and Oct. 2 vs. USC (ABC, 5 p.m.). Washington announced that the game against Cal on Dec. 5 at Husky Stadium will air on FSN Northwest and begin at 3:30 p.m.
Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, which carries some FSN programming, could pick up that Washington game. Or CSN California, which holds exclusive regional rights to Cal sports, could produce its own broadcast if it chooses to do so. Right now, Cal is in discussions with CSN California to see which games it might be able to telecast.
The only games CSN California could pick up before the season are the ones at Washington and Minnesota and at home against Eastern Washington. The rest would first be subjected to the 6/12-day window. Seeing as Cal is considered one of the top contenders in the Pac-10 this season and should begin the year ranked in the Associated Press top 15, it’s a good bet that many of the Bears’ games will be selected by one of the networks as the season goes along.
The situation for the Minnesota game probably won’t be decided until next month. The Big Ten is expected to announce a start time and local TV arrangement for the game in July. Then Cal will see about how it can get the game on locally here.

I wonder if the CSN California locally-produced telecasts would be in HD. I certainly hope so!

Can someone explain the reasoning in putting the Maryland game at 7 PM?!? Will anyone even be awake on the east coast to watch this game? That game should be at 4 PM latest.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
Perhaps its makeup for scheduling last years game when our guys were still sleepy heads. The Terps will likely fade in the second half when it gets to be past midnight for them. Or then again, it might have something to do with the strangehold USC has on the TV programers due to their no good cheating ways.

stranglehold, sorry…
June 10th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
7pm pretty much means it’s the only game on in the country. in the bars, at home, wherever, people will be watching, especially high-school kids. nothing better than watching a full day of college football building up to the bears. and we’re awesome in night games at home. go bears.
June 10th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
ESPN is why the Maryland game is at 7pm…..and it is Great! Cal will be on in every bar across America and national exposure early is exactly what Cal and Javid need. This is big for national recruiting as well.
June 11th, 2009 at 9:13 am
The Minnesota game will no doubt get bigger as it gets closer and I’m looking forward to seeing it on TV. Hopefully it does get televised here on anetwork that can be watched at home. Go Bears!
June 13th, 2009 at 5:28 am
I’m kind of surprised that the Minnesota game isn’t on ESPN early saturday morning as one of their “Big 10″ games that is always on. This would be a hell of a lot better than turning on ESPN in the morning and watching Indiana vs. Northwestern. Shoot Me!!
June 13th, 2009 at 8:27 am
If Best has a breakout game against Maryland, and a CAL victory. Both teams should be 2-0 going into the game, and CAL with a possible Top 10 ranking. I am sure they would broadcast the game against Minnesota on a major network. Networks like the Heisman hype. Florida,Oklahoma & Texas also have big games that weekend so that could affect which network shows the Cal game.
June 13th, 2009 at 8:38 am
Maryland’s game plan = stack the box with 8 = stop Best like USC did (13 carries for 30 yards) = force Riley to pass = brain f@rt like against OSU = another QB controversy = 4th place finish in the Pac 10 = Las Vegas Bowl = loss to WAC opponent = another choke season = hype for 2010 season begins.

Gee, its only June and, already, moron the troll is coming out with its so-called ‘predictions’ on Cal’s 2009 football season. If you go back and check all the prior predictions made by this idiot, you see it always predicts Cal to not just get beaten, but to be embarrassed in the process. No wonder its track record on predicting Cal games is so abysmal…

Here’s a new chant for Patty Cakes:
UN-EM-PLOY-MENT ::CLAP CLAP:: ::CLAP CLAP CLAP::
You criticize Sherm for using tax dollars to spend time on these boards, but you do realize that unemployment benefits come from tax dollars too, right? So you’re just as bad as him, if not worse, since you’re not doing any work to get those benefits.

No wonder its track record on predicting Cal games is so abysmal…>>>>>> OK Sherm aka The Advising Bear(ESPN bear insider) aka Golden Bear aka known as BerkeleyGoldenBear (scout site and ESPN WeAreSC) let’s remember my predictions. In 2007 when you were one brain f@rt away from being the #1 team in the nation I said before the game that OSU would beat you (like they always do in Berkely) and that you would finish no higher than a Las Vegas Bowl. I was right about that game but I was wrong about the bowl game as you went to some heretofore not to be remembered game. Then in 2008 my friend Phil Steele and I said you would go back to the Las Vegas Bowl. You would lose to USC, one of the Oregons, one of the Arizonas. We were right on except the Nut Bowl wanted you more than the Vegas Bowl. And how about these other calls. In 2006 I said the Vols would kill you guys by a score of 35-18. Even the Vol fans were amazed that I called it perfectly. And let’s not forget the 2004 Holiday Bowl where I perfectly called the score of your beatdown against a #24 highly underdog Texas Tech. On your embarrasing slide of 2007 I called every game right including your losses to UW (by the way the last time they won a game) and to Stanford. It is no secret what teams will do to stop you this year. Until you have a QB that will step up and play like a D1 QB you will the box stacked with 8 nearly every play. Before you get too carried away with J. Best just remember that he got 800 yards against likes of Wazzou, UW and Stanford. The question will be if in big games does he play like Reggie Bush or MeSean. The first big play by MeSean in a big game would have been his first.

*it is no secret what teams will do to stop you this year. Until you have a QB that will step up and play like a D1 QB you will the box stacked with 8 nearly every play.*
DUH – recycled boring commentary.
*800 yards against likes of Wazzou, UW and Stanford.*
as opposed to all the yardage Mcknight racked up…
this isn’t your best work. Stop boring us.
June 14th, 2009 at 8:11 am
What moron the troll fails to mention is that it predicts a Cal loss in every game. Most of those turn out to be wrong, and it quickly diverts attention to something else to cover up its error. The few in which it is right (at least about the outcome-its predictions about what caused the result are uniformly wrong and stupid)become reasons to celebrate its prognostication ‘prowess’. Unfortunately, it doesn’t add up to stellar skill in prediction, but, rather, merely demonstrates that it is a Cal hater, and a rather boring and repetitive one at that.
P.S. – learn to spell ‘Berkeley’ = rants against a school as to which the troll can’t even spell its name are simply not credible or compelling.
P.P.S. – I don’t know who those screennames referenced at the beginning of your drivel laden post are, but they definitely are not me.

BluenGold, refrain from using big words when addressing Patty Cakes. Moron is at a fifth grade reading level, at best.

I have noticed how you have frequented your posting over here since we banned you over at WeAreSC. Your vitrol against USC couldn’t possibly have anything to do with your bitterness…could it?
Amythicalprogram, Amy personality #29 replies:
No, it has nothing to do with it. I have been always critical of SUC’s thug mentality among certain players, also I despite SUC’s cheating way (not of whole institution, but of many players). OJ Payo, Reggie Push, + numerous others really made your program look out of control. Too bad, because U$C is my #2 liked team in the Pac-10 after Oregon. I hope your bball program is nailed.
My conclusion is confirmed from the horse’s mouth.

This board has been weird, since Amy and her multiple personalities have manifested themselves on here. I hope Obama’s healthcare reform involves returning the weirdos back to their former residences. You know what I talk about, Amy.
