Former Cal star Jason Kidd signed what almost certainly will be his final NBA contract, a three-year, $25 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Kidd, 37, ranks third in NBA history in assists (10,199) and triple-doubles (103). He needs just 136 assists to move past Mark Jackson into second place, but isn’t likely to catch John Stockton, who had 15,806 career assists.

Kidd also is eighth all-time in steals (2,198), ninth in 3-point baskets (1,486) and, oops, 11th in turnovers (3,462). With 7,408 career rebounds, he is 397 shy of overtaking Oscar Robertson to become the most prolific rebounding guard in league history.

A nine-time all-star, Kidd has averaged 13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 9.2 assists in 15 NBA seasons.
