Football: Items of interest

–Cal sixth-year senior left tackle Mike Tepper has started a blog about the upcoming season. I spoke with Tepper briefly a couple days ago and he seems excited about chronicling the season.

–ESPN.com’s Tom Luginbill provides this report on the first day of the Elite 11 camp, which includes Cal commit Austin Hinder.

–According to Cal’s athletic department, less than 4,000 tickets are left for the Oct. 3 showdown against USC.

Shocker! Berkeley can’t even sell out its game of the year. I bet the bandwagoners won’t be coming if we see Maryland version 2 in early 2009 season.

  • MoreNCsarecoming

Still no news on Scroggins signing yesterday with USC ? You are a coward JO. Look at how your colleague JF reports on the SC basketball program.

  • H8sRed

Iam/Moron – You (singular or plural, as I suspect you’re the same person) need to get a life. The sc game is more than 10 weeks away, and the teams haven’t started fall camp yet. The fact only 4,000 seats remain despite little media attention at this time of year shows how excited Cal fans are for this season. And if you want to discuss sc recruits (who won’t enter college for 14 more months) go to an sc site and mentally masturbate yourself there. The name of this blog is BearTalk. Go Bears!

  • MountainJim

USC has a basketball program? I thought it folded.

  • Shawn

Football has dozens of signing each year. Basketball is a much smaller group year to year. Thus, its a much smaller community and fight for prospects. It’s easier to report on B-Ball recruiting conference wide, which is what JF does. It would be impossible to do the same for football conference wide. Please stop talking. Thanks.

um, the population in the bay area is a couple million. in LA, it’s about 8mm, and while the stadium is a little bigger, they rarely sell out games. most of the people who go to sc games aren’t students or alumni, and they’re only there because there’s no nfl team. up here, we have 2 of those. in a horrible recession, selling 64,000 tickets to a game that’s 3 months away is pretty impressive. also impressive is Tepper’s blog. go bears.

JO – What’s up with Markish Jones?

  • iamalcindor

LOL. What a bunch of silly excuses. Why don’t you just admit that BURQAlee fans are bandwagoners. What do you think the attendance will be if Burkalee loses first 3 games vs coming undefeated? And please dont bring up SUC’s 45K attendance in 1990s. Who cares about SUC?

  • Jan K Oski

Markish doesn’t look like he will be qualifying. My source is MoragaBear on BearInsider. He mentioned it in the football forum under the recent thread about the JUCOs. It is an Amy free zone…

  • Pete Carroll

I thought the point about the 4000 tickets was that there are few seats left. The game will certainly be sold out.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Cal continues to see increases in season ticket sales. In fact with their recent seating endowment plan they’ve raised over $160M in seat license funding. Sandy Barbour and Jeff Tedford have done an excellent job of improving the quality of play, the facilities, and the program. Subsequently, attendance continues to climb and the Bears are contenders. That’s a pretty good result in my book. And soon, they will deliver what every long suffering Bear fan hopes for, to win the Pac-10 and go to the Rose Bowl.

Ted Miller is currently reporting the same news

  • MoreNCsarecoming

And here is just one of many reasons why you will lose against us again. http://www.latimes.com/la-sp-usc-aaron-corp24-2009jul24,0,2546547.story

  • Pete Carroll

PattyCakes – Cal will like lose to You-SC again…but not this year!

    PC

  • calbear

MoreNCs – I strongly believe you are wrong on that one. If we lose I think it’s more likely to be due to the O-Line SC has and the running backs.

  • wehofx

JO, I’m a big fan but what happened to the clean up? I count at least 5 hijacks on this thread from the troll with multiple SN’s.

Thanks for the M Tepper link. I have a feeling I’m going to be a regular visitor to his blog. It’s Bears like him that make me proud to be a Cal alum.

Jan K Oski, thanks. Just completed registration. An Amy free zone will be a refreshing change.

    GO BEARS!

  • ToparchBear

ouch! where is the Pro Football team in L.A.? For 8mm people, they can only indulge in college games. So, go figure. There is no surprise, if pucla or $C sell more tixs.

  • covinared

    What are 8mm people?

  • ToparchBear

Less than 1000 tix for grab for the Cal vs $C game.
Fill it up and rock baby.

    Go bears!
