Burl Toler was on the USF team in 1951 that was undefeated but passed on an invitation to the Sugar Bowl because they were asked to leave their black players, Burl Toler and Ollie Matson, home. The team voted to stay home.

That team had NFL Hall-of-Famers Gino Marchetti, Bob St. Clair and Ollie Matson on it. It was a great team that did a great thing. They defeated Cal that year, too. Burl Toler. Jr. was on the Cal team in 1975 when I was there.
