–Here is a story I wrote today on new offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig, who make more of an impact than previous OCs under Jeff Tedford.

–Jon Wilner of our sister paper, The San Jose Mercury News, picks Cal to win the Pac-10.

Good stuff on the new OC, JO. However, did you perhaps forget or discount the likely positive impact on the program that Ludwig would have when you made your preseason USC pick for PAC-10 champion, JO? :-) I’m going to side with Jon Wilner regarding who will win the PAC-10 this year. Go Bears! Beat the Twerps!

I think Ludwig will bring excitement and wins to Cal this year. More action plays in the play book. Stop all the predictable play.

Utah’s offensive Coordinator, Ludwig, that went 13-0 and beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl is the play caller this year for Cal. Wonderful. JT brought him in for a reason. They are betting big on this year. Since all the play makers are in place, just need a creative play book and bold play calls will do the job. Wilner smell something big is comming for Cal. That is why he is bold enough to switch his instinct, and went with Cal on top.

Granted, $C is spoil year in year out with top recruits, and making top $$$ in top tear bowls, but, also spent $$$ on illegal helps. Don’t tell me that is not cheating. Three investigations on three different issues are on them right now. And, some day the lightening will strike on the dark side of the trojan back. They will be banned, and should be banned from the face of the PAC-10 earth.

    Go Bears!

Here’s hoping Ludwig will bring some new creativity to the CAL O as well!!!

For all the props Tedford gets being the offensive guru, I have not seen it in recent years with the losses in November. Especially when CAL had opportunities to make statements to the FBS about their arrival into a new era of success.

I’m tired of every year beginning with lots of hype, only to see us fizzle out in November. Let’s go Tedford!! Show us you are worth the money!!!!

Wilner is the last guy I would have expected to pick to win the PAC-10, well after Pete Carroll of course. I don’t understand how SI didn’t even have Cal in the top 20. Not only that they put Oregon on the cover. All I can figure is some Nike PR flack was lobbying for the Ducks. Anyway, glad to see that another writer has Cal to win the conference.

Apparently, no one here has read about Ludwig’s lackluster performance at both Oregon and Utah (especially his horrific thrid-dowm playcalling)…

Ask just about anyone who follows Utah football and they will tell you:

    a. The Ute’s success last season had little to do with Ludwig; and

    b. Just about everyone was happy to see him go (same at Oregon, too).

Granted, Ludwig is about as non-Spread Offense as they come while both Utah and Oregon are pretty much the innovators of said offensive scheme.

For sure, Ludwig should be a better fit under Tedford and his style of play, but the enthusiasm I had when I first learned of his hiring has long since dissipated.

Fortunately, we all know that when it comes to Cal offense, whomever holds the title of “OC” is more figurehead than anything. This is Tedford’s baby.

    Hey Pete Carroll–

I still can’t believe what SI did, either. Okay, maybe Cal isn’t top ten, but 21st?! It’s kinda like Bruce Feldman, who has completely dumped Cal for Oregon as his favorite “Pac-10 team that isn’t $C.”

Feldman used to think quite highly of Cal, but I guess the Meltdown of 2007 hit him hard and he’s not quite fully recovered from the burn.

    Go Bears!
