Basketball: Cal is off Kirk’s recruiting radar

Alex Kirk, the 6-foot-10 center prospect from Los Alamos High in New Mexico, told me this afternoon he has not heard from Cal’s coaches in more than a month and no longer has the Golden Bears on a still lengthy list of schools he is considering.

“I just think they’ve been going on to other recruits,” said Kirk, who is rated as the nation’s No. 66 overall prospect by scout.com.

The Bears got an oral commitment from power forward/center Richard Solomon of Price High in Los Angeles at about the same time Kirk stopped hearing from Berkeley. Cal also is believed to still be in the hunt for James Johnson, a 6-9 post player from Elsinore High.

  • uh oh.

Well, I think Cal should still grab another big, so I’ll take it as a good sign that Cal is on someone else’s trail in that department. Nice report, Jeff. Thanks.
