Power forward prospect James Johnson, who visited Cal a week ago, has chosen Virginia, after visiting the Charlottesville, Va., campus this weekend, his father told scout.com.
“James felt so good about the program,” Ted Johnson told scout.com. “It’s the ACC. James always wanted to play in the ACC.”
Johnson, rated as the nation’s No. 31 prospect by scout.com, gave his decision to first-year coach Tony Bennett’ before returning home from Virginia. A senior at Elsinore HS, Johnson also was considering Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Maybe now it was a mistake for Montgomery et al to stop contacting Alex Kirk. Any chance his phone has wrung in the past couple days, since Johnson’s choice?
Suddenly it looks like it’s getting slim pickings out there.
