Football: Better late than never links

–Here’s my game story from today. It turns out playing an FCS opponent was valuable, after all.

–New starting fullback Brian Holley has made an impact so far.

–Here’s the Associated Press’ version of Saturday’s game.

I didn’t like the idea of having a FCS team on the schedule and I criticize teams like Florda & Texas for pulling that on an annual basis. However, if you have some meat elsewhere on OOC schedule, I’m warming up to the idea – a little.

This type of game gives the backups some valuable snaps. These snaps will pay huge dividends down the road; either this season or next.

  • Uh Oh

I read where Kendricks thinks he should have scored on the sack fumble recovery. Well, what should have happened is that his teammates should have turned and blocked someone. I absolutely can’t stand it when players want to run beside their teammate, celebrating into the endzone on turnover plays like that, when instead they should be finding someone to block. They look so stupid, running downfield with no purpose! Then an opponent runs past them and tackles their teammate, no TD, and they are simply observers. So stupid. You are a fat lineman. On turnovers, if you don’t have the ball, you ain’t scoring, so turn around and find someone to block.
This is why Kendricks got caught from behind – not because he was looking at the big screen, as he says.
One Cal player was simply looking the wrong direction – the other, who could have blocked the tackler on the left, was USELESS and should apologize to Kendricks!
