Football: Thursday night update

The Bears seemed in good spirits as they wrapped up practice Thursday. Cal appears to have done a good job putting Oregon in the past and getting excited about USC.  They were hooting and hollering as they stretched and met on the field afterward.

Matt Summers-Gavin will not play Saturday. His sprained shoulder isn’t ready. So Mark Boskovich, who started 10 games last season, will take his place. This will be something important to watch, especially in light of the O-line’s struggles last Saturday.

Jeff Tedford talked a little tonight about USC’s linebacking corps, a brand new threesome that replaced highly regarded Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing and Kaluka Malava, each of whom went during the first four rounds of the NFL Draft. While this year’s group of Chris Galippo, Michael Morgan and Malcom Smith are inexperienced, they were each prep All-Americans and seem to be doing just fine as replacements. The Trojans rank in the top 10 nationally in both scoring defense and total defense.

“They’re all athletic and have a good feel for the game,” Tedford said. “These guys have played (as backups). It’s not like they are brand new. It looks like they have a pretty good handle on what they do. They’re pretty disciplined and do a good job.”

Not too much else to report from Thursday. Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz has been at practice the past couple of days.

In case you missed it, here’s the transcipt from today’s live chat.

Also, Ted Miller of ESPN.com takes a look at Saturday’s game.

So after the beatdown this Saturday what will your excuse be. Also one of our players better not be hurt in another one of those freakish type injuries. I will send a letter to the Pac 10 commish if it happens again. Remember Shaun Cody?

    LOL!

Thank you, Grease Monkey add-on and the script from what’s his name?! Let’s see those links again for other Bear fans!

JO, has the team been playing more zone this year than last year, and if so, does it have to do with the new LBs?

Is it just me, or has Amy been quieter this week vs USC than any week previous? Oh, that’s right… who cares cause I can’t see any of it – BLOCKED

Been a long week of reflecting on the Ducks game, it will be nice to have kickoff and something different to look forward to next week – since god knows it won’t be the same. Things’s are either going way way up or way way way way down depending on how the game plays out. God help us all if the trend is downward, my liver won’t stand a chance. Go Bears!

My liver won’t stand a chance whether we win or lose.

I installed the Grease Monkey script and I couldn’t be happier. In the words of my namesake, “I’m pumped up”. Thanks MikeD.

Mike D, thank you for Grease Monkey. This board is now back on my daily visits.

Will, agreed. My liver is going to take a beating either way.

    Go Bears!
