Basketball: Practice begins Friday

With the start of practice just five days away, here’s my story from this morning’s editions on progress the Bears made during the offseason, plus coach Mike Montgomery’s assessment of his three newcomers.

nice article! if one or two of the new guys can contribute, maybe we CAN be better than last year. go bears!

  • uh oh.

They should be better this year.
    The reasons will be these:

    1) ALL players are 1 year older, stronger, wiser.
We will have Brandon Smith as a ball handling back-up to Randle. Guttierez is still there for all everything, but for certain teams that employ heavy defensive pressure,

    2) Smith will probably do a better job at not committing dribbling turnovers.

    3) We lost only Jordan Wilkes, at center – tall but not robust on the interior – while picking up a shorter, but wider Markhuri Sanders-Frison. It will be KEY to see how well MSF can play. If he can hang with the big boys, we go far, if not, “uh oh”. Regardless, overall, we’ll be better.

MM may want to update his analogies for the times. Wonder how many of his players would even get the “Urkel” reference?
