Football: Nyan Boateng

Had a chance to talk to Nyan Boateng for a few minutes last night. He seems excited about coming back this week and says he feels a sense of urgency to produce now that he’s missed a couple of games and he can see the finish line of his college career.

“Especially with this being my last year, I want to go out there and definitely try to make a lot of plays for the team,” he said. “I want to try to put us in a good situation where we can have success. We can still get a lot of wins. It’s a new year, and our goal is to be 7-0. It’s a new beginning for us, and we’re excited about it.”

Boateng said the team won’t know how it’s dealt with the past two losses until it plays UCLA, but said he’s encouraged by how the Bears have responded.

“Anytime you have losses like that, you can lose confidence a little bit,” Boateng said. “But we have some great leaders on this team who lead by example every day. And our young guys follow. There are lot of guys who are still upbeat. We can still fight for a great bowl game.

“But we have to have this win. It’s do or die right now. Our backs are against the wall right now. This is the national championship right here. We have to go out and win this. Once we win, I think we can get rolling.”
