Football: Anger takes honor

Clearly inspired by the story I wrote about him last week, Cal punter Bryan Anger has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for special teams. Here’s the news release.

hey jo, any word on why a shoulder injury would keep a kicker out of a football game? i’m not complaining, but it seems a little odd, especially for kickoffs. anyway, giorgio seemed to do much better on saturday, with one touchback and i think a few inside the 5. even if vince is hurt, wouldn’t it make sense to let travecchio keep kicking, or was it just the heat that contributed to the deep balls?

Nice work JO!! Care to do a piece on overall special teams play? Might save Alamar’s job.

Rollonubears, the same reason on why his shoulder is injuried, he is the last line of safety for the kickoff team and needs to be able to make a tackle, if he cant do that or hes in obvious pain it severely hinders his ability to kick the football.

Roll, the kicker could get blocked or might have to make a tackle. A shoulder injury would be significant if that were to happen.
