Basketball: Friday’s hoop links

By Jeff Faraudo
Friday, October 23rd, 2009 at 1:59 pm in Basketball, Pre-season.

Here’s my story from this morning’s editions off Thursday’s Cal basketball media.

Also, this interesting item from Percy Allen’s blog in the Seattle Times, relating Gonzaga coach Mark Few’s hilarious reaction to Washington’s proposal to renew their in-state series.

From the Arizona Republic, an update on Arizona State guard Ty Abbott, who had knee surgery Tuesday.

  1. uh oh. Says:

From that Ty Abbott link, sorry, but how stupid is Mike Montgomery for leaving this quote out there?

    >>>> Montgomery brought up the guard’s (Jorge Gutierrez) performance last season against former ASU standout James Harden.
“I told Jorge, ‘Every time he goes to the basket, I want him on the ground,”’ Montgomery said. “It was either going to be a block or a charge, but we wanted Harden on the ground. And he did that.” <<<<

Sure, sing your players’ praises all day long, but if I’m a Pac-10 (or other) official, I think the coach just labeled Gutierrez a thug, and thugs never get the whistle called their way. Bad move, Mike.

    News break:
Expect Jorge to foul out of half his games this year – half of them will be ticky tack, and the other half will be charges called as blocks. The Sophomore Slump is on?
