Kent, obviously Cal still wanted to get a touchdown out of it if possible. They also knew ASU had a timeout left so if they ran it on third down it would force them to use it or Cal could run the clock all the way down.

I wonder if anyone can dig through the stats and answer this question: Does Taylor Mays hold the Pac-10 record for personal foul penalties? Wouldn’t be shocked if he does, he gets flagged for one or two every game. That won’t fly in the NFL (too bad the XFL no longer exists).

I agreed. Some how Riley played better in urgency. He threw much more in command and accurately when he play no hurdle. He was more fire up that way, and He released the ball faster too. Otherwise, the play developped so slow and got chase around or sack.

Did you see him so fire up and motivated the team at the side line. He really has matured this year to be a leader.

Bears are favored by 7. It sure hasn’t worked that way against Oregon State lately. More than most, the Beavers have been able to win in Berkeley.

I agree this weekend will be critical.
OSU has the aggressive OL and great rushing capabilities. Their QB has a quick release and there isn’t much time for the defense to react.
Perhaps the biggest factor might be that OSU has the best coach in the PAC-10. Gets the ‘mostest’ with ‘leastest’

Cal struggled to bear a mediocre, young ASU team. Sloppy mistakes, more key dropped passes, a ridiculous amount of penalties. The OL still can not run block, plays take too long to develop, WAY too much wildcat- does Tedfrod think he is being creative running so much Wildcat. Evn the Vereen jump pass- great play- just not then. That was the worst play ever at that juncture- even if it had worked.

This team is getting no better. It’s ridiculous. If Tedford had any brains, he would do what Robert aludes to earlier- run the 2 minute drill at earlier points in the game. Come out at some point in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and go no huddle, hurry up offense. Riley thrives in that. Think of these time Riley was unbelieveable – OSU 2 years ago at the end, the Armed Forces Bowl huge comeback, the 4th quarter of last year’s Maryland game, the last drive Saturday. Channel Mike Leach and let ‘er rip.

I think if Tedford did that, Cal could win all 4 of their last games, and could win them handily. If not, if Tedford continues to play like he has, then Cal can easily lose to any or all of OSU, AZ, Stanford and UW. This Saturday will tell alot about the rest of the season.

Mays is now playing not to get hurt for the NFL or thrown out of a game. He was not a factor in the OU-$C game.
I would love to see them lose another PAC-10 game. The ASU game is their last road game, then they have three at home however.

BTW – ASU will beat SC. Not that we care about SC, but I think the Bears have a chance to finish ahead of them. SC has lost a lot of defensive players to injuries inflicted during that Oregon beat-down. Taylor Mays is thinking life in the NFL would have been a much better option.
