Most impressive Cal player was Jorge Gutierrez. He continued his intense defense, yet looked more calm/controlled. He appears bigger, stronger. AND, I didn't see him dribble to ball (no bad turnovers that I can count right now) and he looked good in hitting those two 3 pointers. That would be huge, as his outside shot was suspect last year. It appears he's going to be solid for Cal for all 4 years!!!!

Seeley barely made a showing, and was again off the mark - too bad, I expected more out of him this year. Jorge is who DJ needs to unseat, and it's not looking good for him at this point in his Cal career. Amoke is also ahead of Seeley, so I don't see how DJ gets in there - as Monty has said, some people need to work hard in the offseason, get stronger, and be more intense. I think I know who he's talking about. Then next year 3 more guards come in and have the potential to leapfrog DJ if he's not careful. Better turn it on, buddy. We've still got high hopes for ya. You are much too good of a player to sit on the bench.

Boykin looked good, and MSF filled out the front court nicely. It's still going to be frustrating when we meet a team that simply dominates us inside. But enough's been said there.

We know what to expect from Randle, PC, and Theo. I can't imagine them being terribly improved from last year, they played fairly close to potential, seems to me. At least, their improvements aren't going to cover much of the team's overall weakness.

And, then, news out of UCLA last night that 6'9" center (future NBA) Josh Smith from Washington is headed there. And I will take this moment to repeat that while the Gary Franklin Jr. (combo guard) recruit was a nice get, it's not the inside presence we are somewhat desperate for. These other schools' gets just make that more and more apparent with every big man announcement. Solomon is only 1 player and can't man the fort by himself. At this point, our D-II transfer is going to have to be more than a practice player. Yikes.
