Considering how sad I am, and have always been, that we haven’t been to the Rose Bowl my entire life, and then some, I was feeling bad for Arizona – that they’ve never been.

But then I was reminded about how we missed going a few yrs ago simply b/c a teeny tiny part of DeSean Jackson’s cleat was on the sideline – and that video replay overtuned a TD which would have won the game and sent Cal to the Rose Bowl.

At that point, I felt absolutely no remorse for wiping out Arizona’s chances. And besides, it’s not like they are going to get past Oregon and USC, not to mention the rivalry game with ASU, which should always be tough.

    Die, Wildcats. Die.

Here’s how I think the Pac-10 bowl scenario will shape up based on watching yesterday’s games:

Rowl Bowl – Oregon v.s. Ohio State. I can’t envision Arizona beating Oregon next week – even with the game in Tuscon. Oregon gets its final game against OSU at Autzen. They are unbeatable at home.

Holiday Bowl – Stanford v.s. Oklahoma State or Oklahoma. Just can’t see Cal beating Stanford the way they are playing right now.

Sun Bowl – Oregon State v.s. Rutgers. The Beavs get the gimme game against Washington State and will get rudely treated in the final at Autzen. This would be their second straight Sun Bowl appearance in lovely El Paso.

Emerald Bowl – USC v.s. (pick one from the ACC) I think USC wins out, but still gets relegated to this second class (for them) bowl.

Vegas Bowl – Cal v.s. Brigham Young. We’ve seen this one before. Hard to get too excited.

Poinsettia Bowl – Arizona v.s. Utah. I think the Cats are headed for losses to Oregon and a very mad USC team and will get relegated to the Pac 10′s last automatic bowl bid.

The sad thing is that Cal can’t position up for a good bowl even if it beats Stanford on Saturday. The best they can do is the Sun Bowl. If Cal wins, then the loser of the Oregon-OSU game gets the Holiday Bowl. And then it would take Arizona to beat USC for Cal to get to the Sun Bowl, otherwise it would be the Emerald Bowl for the second straight year. From a bowl standpoint, Cal could win both games or lose both games and it wouldn’t make much difference.

And Steve this is exactly what where I said your team would end up BEFORE the season began. Even though every single national and local media personnel was championing your team as the Pac 10 champs and the heir apparent to USC I said Vegas would be your bowl game.

  4. Larry Says:

And just as I predicted before the season started, U$C would lose 2-3 games this year and be humbled. Even though every pundit said Rose Bowl or NC game.
