ToparchiBear – I think Riley plays excellent when he gets the protection from the OL, as does our running game… If we are letting guys fly to hit Riley, he throws errant pick-able balls (at least 3 out of 5 of his INTs are due to zero protection). Additionally, when Cal cannot get their OL to the second level to make blocks (what A. Mack was amazing at), runs will more than often be short gain to no gain, with a few broken play, big runs mixed in…

While Best is unstoppable out in space, I think Vereen’s low center of gravity combined with his tendency to run with his shoulders down, as opposed to Best who self admittedly runs straight up, makes him a better runner through the line and would be tacklers. Best himself said his tendency to run straight up makes him vulnerable to heavy hits and easy tackling and that that was one aspect of his game that he wanted to improve coming into this season. I have seen some obvious improvements. Nonetheless the presence of Best in the backfield was supposed to draw the defense in and aid the passing game but Riley’s chronic case of inconsistency had other ideas.

I guess they couldn’t get Herbert Hoover, so they brought in Tiger. The big question, will he still charge an appearance fee?

Oh I would take Best anyday as well, what I meant to say was the bears play better as a whole when he’s not in the game.

I disagree. I will take Best, when he is healthy any day. The true issue lies on Riley. When he is sharp and quick, the team can move distance. And, when he struggled, both sides of the ball are in trouble. He must step up on the Furd Farm, otherwise the Bears will get lost in the jungle.

I think we should counter with Oliver Williamson (Nobel prize winner ’09) if we’re going outside of football. I like the score of this one 21 to 16.
