When was the last time Eric Boateng had a better Monday than Tom Brady?
AROUND THE PAC-10
– Boateng, Arizona State’s senior center, scored 17 points and the Sun Devils (6-1) breezed to a 74-57 victory over winless Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
– Washington State sophomore Klay Thompson has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for the second straight week after averaging 29.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.0 steals in three wins, leading the Cougars to the Great Alaska Shootout title. Thompson scored a tournament single-game record 43 points in the championship game against San Diego.
THE NATIONAL SCENE
Not sure about the rest of you, but I’m starting to think John Wall might be pretty good. The freshman guard had 12 points, 14 assists and six steals as No. 5 Kentucky (7-0) steamrolled North Carolina-Asheville 94-57. Fellow freshman DeMarcus Cousins added 24 points and 10 rebounds . . . No. 8 Syracuse (7-0) beat Colgate — for the 44th straight time — by a 92-58 score, as junior forward Wesley Johnson had 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
UGLY GAME OF THE DAY
Here’s one you’re glad you missed: Charleston Southern blasted a school from Georgia called Toccoa Falls 103-53, as the losing Eagles committed 33 turnovers and got outrebounded 70-20. Amazingly, Jachin Wettstone, a 6-foot-9 junior from Sheberghan, Afghanistan, had 11 blocked shots for Toccoa. Imagine how bad it might have been otherwise.
