Multiple recruiting services are reporting that Cal has received an oral commitment from defensive end Chris Martin from Aurora, Colo. Martin spent his first three years at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland before winding up in Colorado. He first tried to transfer to a prep school in New Jersey but never made the move after a scholarship fell through. He ended up in Colorado to live with a cousin.
Martin is ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect in the nation by scout.com and the third-best defensive end. Rivals.com has Martin as the No. 2 defensive end and the No. 16 overall prospect.
Martin was one of several recruits to visit Cal over the weekend. He originally committed to Notre Dame but decommitted after the Irish fired coach Charlie Weis.
More on Martin to come…

Fantastic news! I’d be very suprised if he didn’t make an impact rushing the passer early in his career.

Tyler- here is the unoffical visit list from last weekend-

I would say that this tends to be about 75% accurate. Every name listed likely attended, but there may have been some who did that are not listed.
Go Bears!

I feel sorry for this young man. Look at what happened to MeSean. He commits to your program and the only thing he won was ticket out of town after 3 years carrying his Holiday Bowl ring, Armed Forces Bowl ring and Las Vegas Bowl ring. He didn’t even make AA his final year. Come to your program and be forgotten in the mire of small time bowl games and 4th and 5th place Pac 10 finishes.
