The fifth installment in our series of 20 Questions with a Cal basketball player:
MAX ZHANG
YEAR: Redshirt sophomore
POSITION: Center
HEIGHT: 7-3
HOMETOWN: Yantai, China
Your five-man Dream Team, including yourself in the lineup: Yao Ming, me, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Jason Kidd.
Age when you first dunked: I didn’t really play basketball until I was 15. I was so skinny, so weak, because I didn’t really do a lot of sports before that. After two months, I could dunk.
How tall you really are, if the doctor measured you barefoot: 7-2 1/4
How many pairs of basketball shoes you own: 10
If you could be an Olympic athlete, other than basketball, your sport/event: I would say sprinting. We don’t really do a good job of that in China. (Hurdler) Liu Xiang is like the only guy.
The sport you refuse to watch: Sometimes when I watch SportsCenter there’s ice hockey, and I just don’t get it. Sometimes I don’t. All the time, actually.
The actor who plays you in the movie version of your life: Zhen Zidan – he’s a martial arts actor from China. I really can’t think of one who has a similar life experience as me.
Actress who plays the lead opposite you: Liu Yi Fei.
Best concert you ever saw: I don’t think I’ve ever been to a concert. There’s been some opportunities here, but I haven’t gone.
Least favorite kind of music: Don’t really have one. I listen to all kinds of music.
Favorite meal your mother cooks: Dumplings
Secret guilty-pleasure food: They tell me everything I feel like eating is good for me because I’m trying to gain weight. Right now, my body fat is lower than it should be for a good athlete.
Food you will not eat: I don’t think so. Even some food here I’ve never tasted, I can handle pretty well.
Three people in history you’d like to have dinner with: Chinese Chairman Hu, President Obama and let’s put (teammate) Jamal (Boykin) in there. He really wants to meet Obama and I want to help him.
Better looking girls — China or Berkeley: I’ll go with China.
The smartest guy on the Cal team: Theo Robertson
The funniest: Jerome Randle
The best athlete: Patrick Christopher
The strangest thing you’ve seen since you moved to Berkeley: Maybe just people out on campus protesting.
No protesting in China? . . . Not really.

I’m liking Max more and more. Humble, funny, bright, sense of humor and sounds like a great teammate. I heard him on a post-game radio interview and he was just as sharp.
