There's one reason why Anger had a sophomore slump, and that reason was the ST coach on the sideline who would analyze every one of the kid's kicks with a ear full. Thank you, Sandy for not renewing his contract.

Then, there's directional kicking... I never though I'd be so frustrated with special teams.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Pete!

"Uh Oh" I couldn't agree more.

"Is it THAT hard to find someone who can boot it far at a school with the population of the University of California???"

I guarantee there is some strong-legged former high school soccer player walking around campus who could reach the end zone. Many high school players have strong legs, but aren't quick enough tp play D1 soccer. Put the call out for open auditions.

USC had a kickoff only kicker who is now in the NFL. It's that important.

I'd disagree with you Abe to a certain extent. Those are many of the many problems we have, but when the opposing team needs what seems on AVERAGE (I didn't look up the official stat but I'm confident I'm not that far off) 60 yds for a td, and 25 yds to get into field goal range (re: UCLA), the other team is going to score and score often.

I only disagree because while we won't win games scoring 3 pts, having a terrible pass D, etc., extending that length of the field changes it dramatically. And as you know football is very comprehensive. Field position, time of possession, team morale, all that stuff are things that don't show up on the stat sheet but are things that are directly affected by the ST.

And it's not just the kickoffs. Punt coverage has been decent, but inconsistent over the years. The kicker and punter situations have been very, very poor under Alamar.

With that said, good luck to Alamar in your future.

While this is a good start in trying to shore up a program that is clearly headed the wrong direction, I can only hope that it doesn't end at Alamar and most importantly Alamar and special teams won't end up being the fall guy for our colossal debacle this season. Special teams is not to blame for a 3 point showing against Oregon and 'SC. (in fact special teams is credited for the only score against Oregon). Special teams in not to blame why opposing teams QB have their best showing of the season against our pass defense (if any of you have premium access to Bearinsider.com look it up, it is unbelievable). Special teams is not to blame why we had 18 yard in 6 drives, as in 3 yds/ drive!!!! against Utah. This program has deep rooted, fundamental flaws that need to be addressed to turn it around.

Our kick-offs have been disgustingly short for years.
The kickoffs should get the guy fired if nothing else. Is it THAT hard to find someone who can boot it far at a school with the population of the University of California??? Or was that the best Alamar could put on the field?
