Thanks Oski; I was under the impression that the starting offense, defense, and the players who play special teams needed to share the field during practice – at least at times.

It makes sense that the team would dedicate entire segments to ST practice while using the entire field.

Charlie, The ST does go all out as specific time is given for ST in every practice. So, there’s no excuse for poor performance of ST other than really weak coaching.

Do most other D-1 football programs only have 1 practice field?

Whittier field will be getting artificial turf in an upcoming year, so that the football team can practice on campus during the Memorial improvements. Will this be the future site of practice after the improvements? It really doesn’t seem to make a difference based upon my answer to your first issue.

I wonder how much of the ST problem can be attributed to the fact that Cal has only one football field to practice on and, hence, the Special Teams cannot go all out in practice.

Do most other D-1 football programs only have 1 practice field?

The “good return games” maybe occurred when Desean was here. That would have happened with you, JO, coaching the special teams.

Been thinking about the constant post-loss comment, “We need to work harder” and realized that this comment is the nub of the issue with Tedford and our Bears…

We need to work SMARTER not harder…by saying work harder, you are tacitly admitting your previous effort was not your best, was not 100%, because you still have more you can do next time.

That is what is wrong with our Bears. From the Coach down, everyone thinks the solution is to do MORE of the same…i.e., work harder. Coach and Bears need to CHANGE what they are doing…i.e., work SMARTER.

In a perfect world we could have kept Pete on as a strictly TE coach, as he has done a positive job coaching that position. It would include a salary deduction but he could still have a job right now. However this is reality and hopefully Alamar will find a school soon to continue coaching.
