Football: Allan Bridgford note

This is one of those nuggets that falls through the crack, especially when your ability to watch practice is limited:

Freshman quarterback Allan Bridgford suffered a shoulder injury while lifting weights around the third week of the season and has been shut down ever since. Bridgford, like most incoming freshman, began the season as the scout team quarterback but that was cut short because of the injury. Bridgford should be ready to return by the beginning of spring practice, but it is unclear how viable he will be if Jeff Tedford opens the quarterback position back up.

  • uh oh.

That’s important stuff! Even Austin Hinder could conceivably be in the mix, no? At least, he’ll be on the team and eligible. USC’s Matt Barkley did it…

  • Jan K Oski

Thanks JO, I’m seriously thinking of creating a petition to reopen practice for you and other respectable writers like Jim McGill. At least, Tedford will know that the fan base is not happy with his decision. Closing practice has zero benefit to the team, and it only alienates the coaching staff from the fan base, when seasons turn towards the worse. Tedford needs to know, while he is the Captain of this ship, there are investors (fans) who keep him in that position and the boat afloat. Or, is his thoughts about fan support during games double talk?

    Go BEARS!

  • Jan K Oski

Uh Oh, Barkley also imploded as the season wore on, and Hinder didn’t play in a high school league like Barkley. Then, there’s the fact that Tedford has never started a freshman in their first year. Basically, I trust in Sweeney.

  • uh oh.

    good points, Jan.

  • southseasbear

Who ran the scout team following Bridgeford’s injury?

  • robert

South, wasn’t it the no-name QB who got the scout award? Wertzenberger or something like that? I could be way off on the name.

  • Larry

Bridgeford will be the second coming of Longshore.

  • uh oh.

For some reason I think Austin Hinder is going to pass Bridgford by.
He’s the messiah I’m counting on.
If we go through all these QB’s, get to Hinder, and still don’t get to the top of the Mountain, then Tedford’s time here is over.
    Hinder or bust!

  • calbear

whoinder? i like sweeney he seems like a hard worker.

  • C.J. Roses

Sweeney -looks like he is 5’10” and doesn’t seem to have a DI arm…If Sweeney is our savior, it doesn’t look good…

  • Jonathan Okanes

South, it was Ryan Wertenberger, a walk-on redshirt freshman from Mission Viejo.

  • Will

Why is everyone writing off Bridgford when almost none of us has seen him play?

  • Calduke

What do we know about Bridgford and Hinder that would give us a clue as to which QB is the choice of the future?

BTW-Mission Viejo is big time football in Orange County
