Coach Mike Montgomery said sophomore Jorge Gutierrez sprained his right knee and will have an MRI on Monday.

He did not speculate on the seriousness of the injury.

“He’s sore. He’s got a twisted knee,” Montgomery said. “We’re hoping he’s not out too long.”

Jeff- Please update us on Jorge as soon as you know. Holding my breath here. Losing him for any extended perioed of time would be BAD. He is a difference maker in many games during a season.

Keeping fingers crossed that it isn’t a serious injury, Jorge’s energy level elevates everyone else’s game. I am curious about the rule of the refs not being able to stop play in case of an injury unless the team with the injured player has the ball. Why can’t an exception be made in case of an injury?

    Dan,
I won’t know anything further about Jorge’s condition on Sunday. He undergoes his MRI on Monday and Cal is promising us an update as soon as they know what’s up. I will post information as quickly as possible.
