Cal senior Jerome Randle is among 20 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today. The award is given to the nation’s top point guard.
Randle is averaging 19.6 points and 4.9 assists, shooting .923 from the FT line and .440 from 3-point range.
The original list of 73 candidates was trimmed down to 20, also including Arizona senior Nic Wise.
The award, which was started in 2004, went to North Carolina’s Ty Lawson in 2009. This year’s Bob Cousy Award will be presented on April 5 in Indiapolis as part of Final Four weekend.

Jeff, why is the BearTalk blog feed on this page (http://www.contracostatimes.com/college-sports) never updated to show current stories? Wilner’s college sports blog feed updates correctly, while the BearTalk blog feed lists stories from 2008….hrmmm…any way to correct this? Thanks.

How lame is it that cousyaward.com doesn’t have the updated list posted, and yet it says the final 20 will be updated on Jan. 1st?
Elsewhere, however, I found this:
The list of 20 finalists will be narrowed to 10 players by Feb. 1 and then to five players by March 1.
The 20 finalists for this year’s honor are:
Chris Warren, Ole Miss
Denis Clemente, Kansas State
Deonta Vaughn, Cincinnati
Devan Downey, South Carolina
Greivis Vasquez, Maryland
Jeremy Lin, Harvard
Jerome Randle, Cal
John Wall, Kentucky
Jon Scheyer, Duke
Kalin Lucas, Michigan State
Kemba Walker, Connecticut
Malcolm Delaney, Virginia Tech
Manny Harris, Michigan
Matt Bouldin, Gonzaga
Nic Wise, Arizona
Ronald Moore, Siena
Scottie Reynolds, Villanova
Sherron Collins, Kansas
Talor Battle, Penn State
Trevon Hughes, Wisconsin
Here’s my final 5 prediction:
Wall, Randle, Collins, Lucas, and Lin (a darkhorse for fun).
