Football: Some loose ends

- A couple of recruiting websites are reporting that cornerback Adrian Lee of Dallas orally committed to Cal last night. Lee is regarded as a two-star recruit by both rivals.com and scout.com.
- Three-star wide receiver Josh Harper of Stockton has reportedly backed off his commitment to Cal to visit a couple of other schools. Bearinsider.com reports that Harper took a recruiting visit to Fresno State last weekend and plans on visiting Oregon State this weekend. Harper is still considering Cal but wants to keep his options open.
- Cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson has been named the 2009 winner of the Tiny Bates Award, given annually by the Sacramento Grid Club to the best Cal senior from the Sacramento area. Thompson will be honored at a banquet in Sacramento on Feb. 17.
- Cal’s Pro Day will be held on March 10 at Memorial Stadium. That will come after the NFL scouting combine, which runs Feb.24-March 2 in Indianapolis. Thompson, defensive end Tyson Alualu and wide receivers Verran Tucker and Nyan Boateng have been invited to the combine. Underclassmen haven’t received invitations yet, but running back Jahvid Best should be there as well.

Adrian Lee is an intriguing catch from Frosh Steve William’s alma mater, Skyline. He is only a 2-star, since he switched from RB to DB for his senior year. I’m guessing the recruiting sites will elevate him to a 3-star, since he was recruited by ND, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Utah and others. I never thought our Bears would have to Texans in the Secondary. Here’s too the hard work by Tedford ‘n Company on bringing in a good class from across the country during a disappointing season.
Go BEARS!

Yes, Adrian Lee seems like a guy with a big upside. I think taking a small chance on lower rated recruits that are athletic, can play multpile positions and come from winning programs is something we should save a scholarship or two for every year. Welcome Adrian and go Bears!

Memo to the Sacramento Grid Club- DO NOT sell any banquet tickets to someone named ‘moron’ or its daddy!

The Cal Scout site is reporting that a special teams hire has been made. Anyway to confirm?

HAHAHA…Daddy has been going for years. He may have even started the stupid thing. I have also been there and I even asked Tedford a question awhile back. Now do you know who I am?
