Joe Davis (Honolulu): How can we fans help the most?
Jeff Tedford: The most positive way the fans can help is by providing unconditional support for the program. I have noticed in this day and age of blogging, message boards, etc., that people are eager to give negative opinions. …So if you want to help, stay positive. It will go much further than the negativity.

OK Coach I will go first.
A. The QBing is getting better since Rogers
First there was Ayoob
Then there was Longshore
Then there was Riley
B. In between 2006 and 2008 there was the infamous season of 2007 in became known as the Greatest Collapse in College Football History. At least it didn’t happen this year.

Moren…the NCAA slap down approaches for $C. Bend over and grab your ankles Trojans!

MoreNoCreditsareComing:
You are mistaken. The Greatest Collapse of 2007 was USC’s loss to 45-point underdog Stanford. How do you explain that loss? Or the loss to Stanford this year?
The biggest underachiever in 2009, again, was USC (5-4 (Pac-10), 9-4 (overall)), especially when you consider all of those great 5-star and 4-star recruits that USC entices to play there. Were there problems at USC with coaching?
Answer this question: when was the last time that USC won in Oregon? What is the problem there?
Also, for the third time, please answer this question: Are you a USC alumnus or just a wannabe?

It’s sad to see clumsy the clown continuing to post with these silly comments. Who spends the precious moments of their life with such frivolous and shallow things. If you have access to an Employee Assistance Program, or Behavioral Health plan, I suggest you call it up and get the help you need.
Me and Tebow will pray for you.

F@#%$ this is exactly what I was afraid of. I posted a few months ago about how Tosh is gaining some serious national attention already as he was ranked as one of the to 5 up and coming recruiters by ESPN insider and how I that makes me very uneasy. Don’t get me wrong I couldn’t be happier for this guy. He was one of the best defensive linemen we had through the years and if it weren’t for a string of injuries that ultimately ended his career he would be making some serious dough at the next level. So good for him and I hope, know, that one day he will make a head coach. However I was kind of hoping that he will stick around with Cal long enough for Cal to end its drought of league championship and at the rate that he is gaining reputation this guy can be snagged by some moneybag somewhere. I can only hope that Tedford recognizes his value to the program and takes aggressive measures to hang on to him for a little more while.

Abe, Tosh bleeds Cal all the way through. Not to say that he has his own dreams and I’d wish him the best whatever he ended up doing, but it’s a little bit different in this day and age where everyone says they’re loyal (ahem, hello Kiffin) but they’re full of BS. If anything I’m sure one of his goals is to make Cal a premier football program consistently and put Cal as a serious contender for the national championship every year and he’s well on his way in doing that. He isn’t here using this opportunity as a stepping stone to get to other places and it shows.

Don’t worry about the PAC-10 titles. After the U$C sanctions, CAL will be awarded the 2004 & 2006 PAC-10 Championships since U$C cheated.
February 9th, 2010 at 5:24 am
maybe he’ll be our next D coordinator, and then head coach. he definitely deserves a fat raise.
February 9th, 2010 at 5:57 am
The best way to support Cal football is to be positive but I believe with a twist. There are many national message boards CBS sports is one I post on. On there I am totally positive -talking about our great academics, and beautiful campus etc. Not many Cal fans have any national interest and recruits read that.
On here however I write what I really feel and some days I’m actually depressed about Cal BB and Football. This is mostly read by Cal fans.
I do urge others to take a more national view as e are under the radar in many parts of the country, Texas is one of them.

JO I hope you will arrange for Coach Tedford to sit in for another live chat on your blog in the not too distant future. The one yesterday was too short (it started over a half hour late) and I was disappointed that some of his answers were little more than glib generalities. In fact, I think Tedford would benefit from someone coaching him on how to communicate and deal with the media.
February 9th, 2010 at 9:44 am
If Tosh continues to develop as a coach he definitely has potential as a future head coach in waiting. The big fat question is will he stay here long enough?
February 9th, 2010 at 11:14 am
If this harrassment and trash talk continues I may leave this forum…again. This is no threat. Just saying. I come onto this board seeking a thoughtful forum (and a spiritual forum wouldn’t hurt). To my disappointment I find neither. The “We are the #1 PU” line is sadly not to be found represented here. Stanford fans are definitely more entertaining, thoughtful, courteous and bright. Even pucla fans are a tad more than what is found here.

hasta la vista!

JO and JF: you must read these back and forth snipes by us habitual posters as a bit of a joke. Myself included!
I did stop reading the Football posts for a good while, solely b/c Moron ruins the mood. I was happier then, and I think I’ll go back to that.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:53 am
Oh, please, moron. Spare us the self righteous, sanctimonious horse pucky. Anyone who comes onto this forum (it is called BEARTALK, in case that was not apparent) to talk trash, hurl insults and generally take pot shots at Cal and its athletic and academic programs is clearly and obviously in the wrong place and does not belong here. If you expect to be welcomed, or for anyone to beg you to stay, you are either delusional or you must be smoking some pretty potent stuff.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:53 am
….and he still won’t answer question #3.
February 9th, 2010 at 2:00 pm
If my source is accurate;
Kenbrell Thompkins , WR, from El Camino JC has not committed for 2010. He’s rated 4-star.
Is Cal still trying for this guy??
February 9th, 2010 at 2:59 pm
Yahoo sports ran an article in December saying Thompkins had signed with Tennessee. Did he back out after Kiffin bailed out?

JO
Ted Miller mentions your chat with Tedford on his blog. He does a really good job of reporting on the Pac 10 and I believe the commentors on his blog show a great example of what it means to be dedicated contributors. http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id/7815/pac-10-lunch-links-tedford-says-qb-competition-is-on
February 10th, 2010 at 1:55 am
LOL!! Of course moron loves Millers blog. 2 0f 6 contributions are from it! Dedicated contributors? Talking trash is NOT dedicated contribution!
February 10th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
JO,
What ever happened to last year grey-shirt Lucus King LB from Berkeley High?
February 10th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
Have the Bear’s used up all their available scholarships for 2010??
February 10th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Scout.com shows Thompkins as uncommitted
along with other interesting recruits.
February 10th, 2010 at 10:46 pm
Calduke,
Thompkins doesn’t have the grades to clear Cal admissions. He should consider UCLA or USC. Both have lower multi-year APRs and seem to have no problem admitting guys like Brian Price and Sultan McCullough. Not saying these fine institutions aren’t worthy of respect. They just aren’t in Cal’s league and are better suited to student-athletes who aren’t prepared for classroom work at a world class university.
February 11th, 2010 at 7:54 am
LR
Cal has offered a scholarship to Thompkins.
Why would they do that if he doesn’t qualify; or, why don’t they drop the offer and go for a couple of the other 3-star WRs.
February 11th, 2010 at 9:21 am
Calduke,
This is often done in the expectation that the recruit will get their academic affairs in order before a final commitment is made. Cal has a couple recruits who’ve signed LOIs for this class who still might not qualify. This isn’t uncommon. Schools with high academic standards and competitive football programs sometimes take a flyer hoping the kid will get his act together. Doesn’t always turn out the way we want; that’s why you have Plan Bs and can utilize unused schollies in the future. What I’m trying to say is there are other options for kids like this (Oregon, ASU, WSU…and even UCLA and USC, much as those institutions don’t want to admit it)
February 11th, 2010 at 12:27 pm
I know of no reason that a school can’t offer a scholarship conditionally; i.e. based on meeting the standards for admission. However, one would have to believe that the team recruiters have a pretty good idea whether the candidate can meet the standards at the time the offer is made. And I doubt that they are willing to extend offers to someone who is not expected to qualify, since it ties up the scholarship pending a final determination.
February 12th, 2010 at 9:25 am
OK, you guys have convinced me it’s a dead deal with Thompkins.
Use this ‘conditional’ scholarship on some other
‘qualified’ recruit. There are some out there.
Maybe an Australian soccer player who can kick the friggin ball into the end zone
