AROUND THE PAC-10
Saturday’s Senior Day at Cal looms as possible showdown for Pac-10 regular-season title . . .
– Arizona State 73, Arizona 69: The Sun Devils (19-8, 9-5) stayed just a half-game back of Cal after winning its third straight game and avenging a 19-point home loss to the Wildcats. Junior guard Ty Abbott scored 28 points for ASU, which has won three straight years at Tucson for the first time since 1983. Cal beat ASU 78-70 in Tempe last month. Arizona (13-13, 7-7) lost for the fourth time in five games despite 18 points from Nic Wise and 15 from Derrick Williams.
– Pac-10 standings: Cal 10-5, Arizona State 9-5, USC 8-6, Washington 8-7, Arizona 7-7, UCLA 7-7, Stanford 7-8, Oregon State 6-8, Washington State 6-9, Oregon 4-10.

As bad as the rest of the league is we can’t always count on them losing. The loss to OSU is haunting.

ASU’s win doesn’t change the fundamental math. Despite the loss on Thursday, Cal still controls its own destiny. Three wins gives Cal a regular season Pac-10 championship. I don’t care how down the league is ,that’s a huge accomplishment. It’s something the program can build on for the future.
Go Bears!

We sweep AZ and it’s all over. Still, I could see us losing Thursday. Saturday is the game of the year for the bears. Pretty much a must win unless state loses to the furd on thurs. Come on bears!

The math is simple: win our last 3 games, and Cal will be outright Pac-10 Champs. Get it done Bears!!

My haunting fear is a sweep this upcoming weekend leading to an overconfident bunch heading into the season finale at Maples. Any game where a team can knock the other team out of the PacX championship is huge but even more so for a rival. So, I expect Furd to be fired up in one of those scary ways. (think Cal football in Big Game this past year)
