Nice post CruzinBears. To this day my favorite Cal highlight is that side step by Desean. When that happened, that epitomized to me that the program was at a totally different level than before Tedford.

Uh Oh – In terms of the side step comment I’d like to submit the clip of Jahvid Best’s 93yd TD run against UCLA this year…

I don’t know who has a better side step, but that video (along with D-Jack’s return vs. Tenn. in 07) are of my recent favorites…

Everyone has always asked who was faster, Jahvid or Desean. At his combine, DeSean recorded the fastest time of 4.35, same as Jahvid. Here are the results from Desean’s combine workout:

COMBINE WORKOUT:
40 Yrd Dash: 4.35
20 Yrd Dash: 2.52
10 Yrd Dash: 1.53

PRO DAY WORKOUT:
Vertical Jump: 34 1/2
Broad Jump: 10’02″
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.19
3-Cone Drill: 6.82

Jahvid’s combine time in the 3 cone drill was 6.75, which was a best among RB’s. In the 20-Yrd Shuttle, Jahvid recorded 4.17, which was off the pace of 4.06 for RB’s, set by Dexter McCluster.

So, at this point, with Jahvid tying DeSean in the 40, and edging him in the cones and 20 Yrd Shuttle, I’d have to give the edge to Best. However, DeSean can seemingly hop 1 yard laterally better than anyone, no? This enables him to then USE his speed more because he can evade tacklers and then sprint.
