Basketball: Latest bracket projection

Here is this morning’s NCAA Tournament bracket projection from ESPN.com’s Joe Lunardi.
Cal is a No. 7 seed in this bracket, set to play Virginia Tech at Buffalo. Looming in the next round, likely West Virginia. But maybe . . . Todd Bozeman and Morgan State. If this came to pass, we’d never again be able to say the NCAA has no sense of humor.
What’s fascinating beyond who will get into the NCAAs is who won’t: North Carolina, Arizona, UCLA (barring two more wins at Staples), UConn, Indiana, Oklahoma, Michigan. These are some of the game’s most enduring programs.
The NIT, CBI and the irrelevanthoops.com tournament must be frothing at the prospect.

From that list of those who didn’t make it Indiana stands out. Creen came in and let go of all the Simpson players and this year they practically were all freshmen, but what really compounded that was their two best freshman both got injured early. They played with nothing but still beat Pitt was Pitt was unbeaten and ranked near the top and played some Big Ten teams pretty well. They also flopped a bunch, and I’m almost happy their season is mercifully over.

I’d like to see us win this tourney, get a 6 seed, and be matched up against New Mexico in the 2nd round. That would be a sweet matchup. I’d actually rather be a 6 than a 5, b/c I figure we have about as much chance against a 3 as a 4 seed, and then don’t want to play a 1 seed. Well, I guess at that point, 1 vs. 2 – who cares.

I see Purdue is also projected as a 3 seed. That wouldn’t be a horrible matchup b/c they are diminished since the recent loss of star Robbie Hummel. Plus, it would be an interesting matchup for Randle – from Chicago, and going against the likes of other Chicagoans, like 6’3″ star guard E’Twaun Moore, a Jr. from Chicago.
